Spring 2024 Opportunities
Conversations to Remember Opportunity:
Conversations to Remember is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated towards combating loneliness and isolation felt by senior citizens. Their virtual visit program matches 2-3 college students with residents of long-term care, assisted living, and memory care communities for virtual video visits. Many of these seniors are suffering from dementia and isolation, and members can really brighten their days just by speaking with them. Conversations to Remember provides training to the students in the program about the best ways to interact with the seniors, as well as additional support throughout their service. Since these visits are virtual, no travel is required. This is both convenient, and allows more of the volunteers' time to be spent volunteering, rather than commuting to their volunteering location. This program is free of charge to seniors across the country, and has students from around the country as well.
Typically, students volunteer 1-2 hours per week. Each call lasts up to one hour, based on the senior's attention span and mood on each day. Students are expected to volunteer for approximately 16 weeks, so that they can build a friendship with the senior. The students are matched based on the times that they're available, with a senior who is available at the same time, and they will have a regular, weekly appointment for their visit. Students wishing for more visits or other opportunities that allow them to volunteer more hours can be accommodated with different ways to volunteer, such as assisting with their social media, call support, or outreach.
The program is provided year-round and new students are started every week. If you want to learn more about this program visit their website, at https://conversationstoremember.org. You can register to volunteer by filling out a volunteer interest form on their website.
AZMS Co-Sponsored Blood Drive Point Opportunity:
We are co-sponsoring the Alpha Zeta Medical Society Blood Drive! The United States is currently experiencing a critical blood shortage so getting as many donors as possible is crucial to save lives. Those that donate would receive 3 points and those that volunteer can receive 1 point. More details for the co-sponsor are as follows:
- Date: Monday, February 26th, 2024
- Time: 11:00am - 5:00pm
- Location: Brower Student Center Room 225

Mentor/Mentee Program:
We are excited to launch a new Pre-Health Mentor-Mentee Program. In this program mentees will be assigned a mentor that can help guide them on their pre-health journey.

Through this mentorship program, mentors will develop leadership, communication, and empathy skills. All mentors will receive points every time they meet with their mentees.
Where Do I Sign Up?: A 2 minute Google Form
Eligible Mentees: Freshmen & Sophomores
Through this program, mentees can gain self-confidence, academic insight, and networking skills. You will also have access to a constant support network within AMSA itself to make it easier to ask any questions! All mentees will also receive points every time they meet with their mentors.
Where Do I Sign Up?: A 2 minute Google Form
Based on your responses to the form, we will do our best to match mentees/mentors according to your majors and future career goals.
The deadline to apply for the AMSA Mentor/Mentee Program is Friday, September 29th, 2023 at 11:59pm. This is a great opportunity so make sure to apply as soon as possible!
Point Opportunity - MAPS Racism in Healthcare Event:
AMSA is co-sponsoring TCNJ MAPS's event on Racism in Healthcare. Details are on the flyer below. All AMSA members who attend will receive a point!
After you attend the event, be sure to fill out this form so you can get credit. Note: you will be required to submit a selfie from the event as proof!
NJMS GAP Mentorship Opportunity:
NJMS GAP (Guiding Aspiring Physicians) is a new club with the mission of bridging the “gap” in knowledge for pre-medical students. We hope that providing them with mentors from NJMS will help guide them through the MCAT/application process and ease their journey into medicine.
The goal of this initiative is to match pre-medical students with NJMS students who are alumni of their schools (ie. TCNJ alumni at NJMS mentoring TCNJ pre-medical students). We envision that this will help build a sense of community between each mentor and mentee, and between each school and NJMS.
Students who are interested in receiving a mentor can find the brief application, which is due on Friday, October 27th, here.
We would like to note that we will likely receive more mentee applications than we have available mentors at this time. Priority will be given to 3rd and 4th year students that are currently going through the MCAT/application process if we do not have enough mentors for all of the students. We plan to provide resources to students who do not receive a mentor through events and a community group chat with access to communication with current NJMS students. We encourage all students interested to apply!
Also of note - some students may receive an NJMS mentor who attended a different undergraduate university if the demand for mentors is high.
Point Opportunity - AMSA Apparel Fundraiser:
We are trying to get quarter zips or crewnecks for AMSA this semester's fundraiser. We need members to submit a design! Use this form, if you're interested, and you will receive 1 point for the submission! Submissions are due by Monday, October 30th, 2023.

Whether you're an incoming student trying to navigate around a confusing school system or an "established" student trying to solidify his/her plan, AMSA is for you! Founded in 1950, AMSA remains one of the most recognizable and distinguished organizations both on a local and domestic scale. By joining AMSA, students will have the opportunity to start their medical journey with the help of TCNJ's very own pre-medical student base!
The executive board is here to help, please do not hesitate to ask us, either directly or by emailing us at [email protected]
Help us gain recognition by encouraging your friends to join one of the biggest pre-medical organizations on campus!
Check out TCNJ's Medical Careers Advisory Committee here!
"Although the committee is based in the Biology Department, students from ANY MAJOR who are interested in pursuing medical school are encouraged to meet with and be counseled by members of the committee as to courses of action to take to gain admission to medical (allopathic or osteopathic) or dental school."
